Get Your Bearings

Add Maps

Here's what some of our customers had to say about this product Howie Elliott - 25/08/2008  I bought the Garmin Oregon 300 last week while back in the UK for a brief visit as I live in Spain. Got to play with it while in the UK and learn about the things it can do. I am really impressed with several features of it. I especially like the fact that when you download a cache it also includes the notes so no more having to carry printouts around - though I have to translate the Spanish notes so still have to carry those. I used the unit for the first time yesterday to find a brand new cache and it was spot on - I found my 60Csx was no longer accurate. I also used it to set a new cache last night so hope the co-ords for that are spot on too and will not get anymore complaints of being out. I love many of the features and it is easy to use, like anything, once you get used to using it and finding what does what. One small gripe is that it only seems to be able to be read with the backlight on all the time, which soon uses the batteries up - without the backlight it is harder to read but that may be because of the sun over here. But am on to my fourth set of batteries already though that may be because I'm still playing about finding just what it will and can do - may need to invest in re-chargeable batteries. Another thing you can't do is when out on the road you cannot lock on to a cache and see which it is unlike my 60Csx unit - may be that as you get near a cache it goes to the top of the list so you can look at it - will need to check that point out. Other than that I like the unit especially the touch screen - no I never had an ipod to practice on - and love the ease in which you can set it up for your own use and preferences. I recommend you buy one of these now - you will soon be amazed at what it can do and the ease of using it Colin part of the “The Wobbly Club” - 17/08/2008  I first became aware of the Garmin Oregon 300 during the Tour de France cycle race. Team Garmin-Chipotle rider David Miller was using one to measure his Heart Rate and the Bike Cadence. I was not aware that this unit could also be used for Geocaching, that was, until Garmin (Europe) UK, telephoned me on a totally different matter. The conversation got around to the Oregon 300 that I had seen on the Tour de France. The gentleman was very enthusiastic about the Oregon 300. I just had to have one. The next day I telephoned UKgeocachers.co.uk at their Andover unit to make an appointment to pick up the Oregon 300. First impression out of the box is of the compact size and its reassuringly tough feel. It is the first GPSr by Garmin to feature a touch screen, the only button being the on/off switch. The Oregon 300 can be set up to use five different profiles, Recreational, Automotive, Marine, Fitness and of course Geocaching. In the Geocaching mode it will display the whole cache details, hints etc. This makes the Oregon 300 ideal for totally paperless Geocaching without the need for a separate pocket PC. The Oregon 300 also boasts an Electronic Compass, Barometer and an Altimeter, all of which are very easy to set up. I decided to test the Garmin Oregon 300 against a Garmin 60SCx and a Garmin 12. For the test I chose a cache called “Ready to go Micro – Norton Plantation No 1”. This was because the cache was hidden in very dense woodland. The Oregon 300 was very quick to acquire the satellites. Once in the trees the Oregon 300 never lost any of the satellites unlike the Garmin 60SCx which lost 3 and the Garmin12 which could not make its mind where the cache was hidden. Even sitting in my lounge whilst still playing with the Garmin Oregon 300 it managed to lock onto at least 10 satellites, very impressive.
